Application requirements

Applications only move to vetting once all six documents are attached. Everything can be uploaded as PDF, JPG or PNG, up to 10 MB per file. All Opal Students properties are NSFAS accredited.

South African ID or passport

A clear copy of the identity document of the applicant.

Proof of registration or acceptance

A letter from your university confirming registration or provisional acceptance.

Proof of funding

NSFAS confirmation, bursary letter, or proof that a parent or guardian will pay.

Proof of residence

A municipal bill or affidavit showing your current home address.

Next-of-kin identity document

ID copy of the parent, guardian or next of kin listed on your application.

A municipal bill or affidavit showing the home address of your parent, guardian or next of kin.

Who can apply

  • Registered or provisionally accepted students
  • Studying at a campus in Johannesburg or Pretoria
  • Funded by NSFAS, a bursary, or private payment
  • 18 years or older on move-in date

Common reasons for delays

  • Blurred or cropped ID copies
  • Registration letter from the wrong academic year
  • Next-of-kin ID missing
  • Next-of-kin proof of residence missing
  • Funding proof still pending
